My hard drive died last week.
Ironically, I was backing up my data to the network since I had to send my machine back to Sony because it was falling apart after less than a year of non-strenuous use, when it froze. Big-time. CTRL-ALT-DELETE did nothing, so I powered it off and on again, only to be greeted by a BSOD. Powered off and on again, only to hear a sound that no computer user should ever be unfortunate enough to hear: a really loud "CLICK CLICK CLICK" coming from the hard drive.
Booooo.
And this was before all my data was backed up. So I had to send the laptop back, and hopefully there was so much crap wrong with Sony GR100K, serial# 30000001 (first one off the production line--guess they were working out the bugs on my machine!) that they will send me a brand-new machine. Hah, fat chance.
Aside from the machine, Sony's customer service sucks. Next machine I'm going with is a Toshiba 4010. 4.4lbs with a built-in CDRW/DVD, 802.11b, 12.1" screen, and a whole lot of other acronyms too.
