[-Montreal-] I am basking in the afterglow
of the Simpsons live reading which has become the hot show to see at the Montreal Comedy Festival.
They read an episode called The Cartridge Family, and it was remarkable to see the characters come alive through the cast. When each character's voice was used for the first time, the crowd went nuts.
Some interesting observations during the Q&A; with Matt Groening and the cast:
Groening was asked what his favourite episode is, and he said that he didn't really have a favourite one, but was always interested in the future eps. He wasn't satisfied with anything he'd done, but was always looking forward.
He also said that his fixation with robots stemmed from a fear of robots as a child: "I mean, the problem with a robot is that you can't rationalize with it if it's trying to murder you."
Hank Azaria is brilliant. He voices Cletus, Chief Wiggam, Apu, and Comic Book Guy (big cheer), among others.
It was so strange to hear the character's voices from a source you totally don't expect, but I had a smile pasted on my face for the whole two-hour show. Money very well spent.
