Pew Study: 5% of Americans Use RSS
Jeff Jarvis at Buzzmachine has some interesting data from the latest Pew Internet and American Life study about blogs, including this snippit:
5% of internet users say they use RSS aggregators or XML readers to get the news and other information delivered from blogs and content-rich Web sites as it is posted online. This is a first-time measurement from our surveys and is an indicator that this application is gaining an impressive foothold.
Additionally, there's an interesting line about how the asian tsunami may ultimately change content consumption habits by first raising the awareness of blogs:
Blogs that cover the tsunami disaster and relief efforts are bound to boost readership further, said Lee Rainie, the [Pew] project's director."The tsunami is one of those cataclysmic news moments where lots of people's perceptions change," Mr. Rainie said. "Awareness of blogs will grow dramatically. There's so much attention to the coverage on blogs and Web sites and first-person video as primary news sources."
