Ripping the Spine from a Chili Fish
Went to a Thai place on Park Street last week with Geneve, Sean, Jeremy, and Karen. Geneve and I had been before, and were moderately pleased with the quality of the food. We had not, however, tried the chili fish, which Tom raved to Karen and Sean about. Tom's wife, Sephi (who is a professionally trained chef), corroborated Tom's sentiments about the dish.
The chili fish that landed on our table consisted of the whole fish--tail and head included. The way to eat it, according to Karen, was to eat the top half, remove the spine, then eat the bottom half. Flipping the fish over after eating the top half (so removal of the spine is unnecessary) is considered bad luck.
So we devoured the top half of the delicious chili fish. As Karen removed the spine, which peeled away in one neat pull, I flashed back to my days slumming in Yonge Street arcades in Toronto.
"FATALITY," I murmured. Being gamers, Sean and Jeremy chuckled, acknowledging the Mortal Kombat reference.
Karen and Geneve just rolled their eyes, and dug into the spineless chili fish.

Update: Added the pic, and this link for those without the geek gene, which demonstrates Karen's Sub-Zero's technique. (Thanks for the inspiration, Josh.)

OK, I howled at hearing the "Fatality" bit. I can't remember which character is was who pulled out your spine though... Scorpion? This is gonna drive me crazy.
I looked it up. The character was Sub-Zero with the "Spine Rip" fatality. I am so pathetic. But I feel much better now.
