Had a kickoff meeting
yesterday for a big project that I'm going to be working on. All types of interested parties were there: Marketing, Engineering, Editorial, Technical Production (my group), etc. When I was at a place where I was in the most technical group, I got to drop the "not trivial" bomb, and nobody could question it.
It's a great phrase to use in reference to a technical task--"performing that is not trivial"--because people who are less technically skilled can't disagree with it without sounding incredibly stupid, so most don't. It was often used at ALS-TDF in response to requests that ranged from annoyingly boring to non-trivial.
But an engineer dropped it in the meeting yesterday in response to a technical question from a non-technical person, and I smiled to myself.
