[-New York-] PS One is damn cool
. It's an old public school in Queens that has been converted into a modern art museum, and is affiliated with MoMA. Every Saturday in July and August they serve beer and have DJs come spin in the courtyard outside the building. Went yesterday and found DJ Spooky spinning awesome tunes while an eclectic crowd ranging from hipsters to parents with their children grooved to the tunes while sipping beer.
Great vibes, and next summer if you're in New York, I highly recommend going to check out the party as well as the art--the coolest piece I saw was a video of two teams playing soccer and two other teams playing basketball on the same court at the same time. There were no injuries, and an overhead camera provided a cool perspective that contrasted the different flows of the two games.
